The world of modern disinformation has long passed the era of simple, easily verifiable lies. Today, we are dealing with multi-dimensional Foreign Interference and Manipulation of Information (FIMI) operations that combine sophisticated psychological algorithms, generative AI, and an architecture designed to fuel social outrage.

At the Institute for Digital Hygiene, we have been analyzing these mechanisms for years, moving from theory to practical defensive tools. We know that fact-checking alone is no longer enough - it acts reactively, long after the informational poison has already spread across the web. Our goal is to build systemic and individual cognitive resilience.

The New Threat Landscape: Where Is Manipulation Coming From?

In our daily research and training work, we identify challenges specific to the Polish infosphere. Poland currently finds itself on the front lines of the information war, facing two primary vectors of pressure:

  • Kremlin Hybrid Operations (Eastern Vector): Actions aimed at undermining trust in state institutions, NATO, and the EU, driving polarization around refugee issues, and sparking panic over energy and food security. This includes coordinated Doppelganger campaigns using spoofed news media outlets.
  • Algorithmic Radicalization & Techno-Libertarianism (Western Vector): The outrage architecture exported from Silicon Valley and American alt-right circles. Profit-driven social media algorithms favor content that triggers fear, anger, and distrust in democratic procedures.

Added to this is a growing wave of financial deepfake scams (using the likenesses of Polish state companies and public figures), targeted sabotage of the energy transition, and content farms driven by commercial polarization.

Our Methodology: From Fact-Checking to Cognitive Inoculation (Prebunking)

Traditional information verification is like fighting a fire after it starts. At the Institute for Digital Hygiene, we introduce a preventive approach—prebunking, or building immunity before a user is exposed to manipulation.

How does cognitive inoculation work?

Instead of debunking a specific lie after the fact, we make users aware of the exact mechanism that will be used against them (e.g., triggering a sudden sense of threat, impersonating authority figures, deploying artificial bot swarms). When users encounter a real campaign online, their minds immediately recognize the pattern of manipulation..

Practice and Innovation: Interactive Simulations in the Infosphere Lab

Experience has taught us that dry theoretical knowledge doesn't protect anyone when a catchy, emotion-driven headline pops up on a smartphone screen. That is why we developed our proprietary workshop environment—The Infosphere Sandbox.

It is a closed laboratory platform that simulates the dynamic environment of modern social networks, allowing participants to face real-world challenges in a safe environment:

  • Red Team vs. Blue Team Scenario Games: Participants step into the shoes of both attackers (learning how bot farms, outrage factories, and site cloning work from the inside) and defenders (managing an information crisis in real time).
  • Simulated Training for General Audiences: Workshops for the public where participants navigate a simulated, dynamic newsfeed. They practice spotting synthetic profiles, distinguishing intercepted media from deepfake audio, and neutralizing their own emotional reactions.
  • Measurable Results: Our algorithm evaluates metrics such as the Virality Index, Polarization Rate, and Institutional Trust based on the decisions made by participants.

Turning Knowledge into Resilience

Whether we are training public sector leaders, analysts, journalists, or running digital hygiene workshops for the broader public, we blend hard knowledge of geopolitics and network architecture with practical psychology.

Disinformation is not merely a technological problem—it is a psychological and societal challenge. Secure your organization, team, or community against next-generation manipulation.
